武田綾乃による小説シリーズが原作のアニメ作品。京都府立北宇治高校の吹奏楽部を舞台に、ユーフォニアム奏者の黄前久美子を中心とした部員たちの青春を描く。
久美子が北宇治高校に入学し、吹奏楽部に入部するところから始まる。吹奏楽部はかつて強豪だったものの、現在は不和や不真面目さで低迷していた。新任顧問の滝昇は、部員たちに全国大会出場を目指すかどうかを選ばせるが、多数決で全国を目指すことになる。しかし、その多数決は白紙投票が多く、本当にやる気のある部員は少ないことが判明する。滝は厳しい指導で部員たちの演奏力や意識を高めていくが、それに反発する者や悩む者も出てくる。久美子は中学時代の同級生でトランペット奏者の高坂麗奈と再会するが、中学最後のコンクールで麗奈に言ってしまったひどい一言が気になっていた。久美子は麗奈や他の部員たちと関わりながら、自分の吹奏楽に対する想いを見つめ直していく。

Set in the Kyoto Prefectural Kitauji High School brass band club, it depicts the youth of the club members centered around euphonium player Kumiko Oumae. It begins when Kumiko enters Kitauji High School and joins the brass band club. The brass band club used to be strong, but now it is in a slump due to discord and indifference. You can choose whether or not to aim for the national tournament, but you will aim for the national tournament by majority vote. However, many of the majority votes are blank votes, and it turns out that there are few members who are truly motivated. We will raise our performance ability and consciousness, but some people will react and suffer. Kumiko reunites with trumpet player Rena Kosaka, a classmate from junior high school, but she is worried about the terrible thing she said to Rena at the last competition in junior high school. As Kumiko interacts with Rena and the other club members, she reconsiders her own feelings about the brass band.
