弘法大師空海（Kobo Daishi Kukai）
高野山は、和歌山県の紀伊山地にある山上盆地で、1200年前に弘法大師空海が開創した真言密教の聖地。高野山全域を「総本山金剛峯寺」と呼び、特に「奥之院」と「壇上伽藍」は2大聖地として信仰を集めている。高野山には117ある寺院のうち51の寺院が宿坊となっており、一般の参拝者も宿泊できる。宿坊では、写経や阿字観などの修業体験や精進料理を食べることができる。また、高野山は四季折々の自然や文化財も魅力的で、毎年8月13日には10万本のろうそくで参道を照らす「高野山萬燈供養会」が開催される。
Koyasan is a mountain top basin in the Kii Mountains of Wakayama Prefecture, and is a sacred place for Shingon Esoteric Buddhism founded by Kobo Daishi Kukai 1200 years ago.The entire area of Koyasan is called "Kongobu-ji Temple" and "Okunoin" and "Danjogaran" in particular are worshiped as two major sacred sites. Out of the 117 temples on Mt. Koya, 51 are temple lodgings, and general visitors can stay overnight. At the temple lodgings, you can experience training such as copying sutras and Ajikan, and eat vegetarian cuisine. Koyasan is also attractive for its seasonal nature and cultural assets, and every year on August 13th, the Koyasan Manto Memorial Service is held, lighting the approach with 100,000 candles.
